According to a Spanish newspaper El Paínard on December 6th local time, Juan Carlos I, the abdicated king of Spain who has moved to Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, recently submitted a statement to the Spanish financial department through his lawyer to legalize his financial revenue.

It is reported that this statement is related to the Spanish prosecutor’s investigation of Juan Carlos I and his relatives’ suspected use of informational opaque bank cards for money laundering, and the Spanish Ministry of Finance will reply within a few days whether to accept the former king’s financial legalization request and the fines he should pay.

Juan Carlos I officially abdicated on June 19, 2014 and passed on to his son, the current King Felipe VI of Spain. On August 17, 2020, the Spanish royal family officially confirmed that Juan Carlos I had moved to the United Arab Emirates.
