The first case of Omicron strain infection was found in New Zealand

On the 16th local time, the New Zealand Health Department announced the discovery of the first case of infection with the coronavirus mutant virus Omicron strain. The confirmed patient is an overseas immigrant and is currently quarantined in Christchurch.

At the end of last month, the New Zealand government declared nine southern African countries, including South Africa and Botswana, as high-risk countries, requiring their citizens returning to New Zealand from those countries to be quarantined for 14 days.
