According to a report by the Russian satellite news agency on January 25, the European Union announced that although Guaidó is regarded as Venezuela’s “privileged interlocutor”, the European Union will no longer recognize Guaidó as Venezuela’s interim president.

In a joint statement, the 27 member states said that despite a recent resolution of the European Parliament requiring EU governments to maintain Guaidó’s head of state status, the EU still recognizes Guaidó as part of the democratic opposition.

“The European Union reiterates its call for [protection]… All political opponents, especially opposition representatives elected to the National Assembly in 2015, especially the freedom and security of Guaidó,” the statement said.
