December 16 According to an AFP report, on the 15th local time, Turkish President Erdoğan said that Turkey hopes to turn a “new page” with the European Union. It is said that this is the highest level of Turkish-European contacts since the European Union recently decided to impose sanctions on Turkey.

Erdoğan told European Council President Michelle on the phone, “Although Turkey wants to turn a new page with the EU, some people continue to try to provoke the crisis.”

Erdoğan reportedly called for the rescue of Turkish-European relations from “this vicious circle”, adding that he hoped to “restart” negotiations with the EU “on the basis of the common interest”.

According to previous reports, on December 10th local time, EU leaders agreed to impose sanctions on Turkey, which is exploring gas in disputed waters with Greece and Cyprus.
