On November 17, the Chamber of Commerce of Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Associations of Countries along the China-EU Line, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Public Security, the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, opened in Chongqing.
Representatives from 18 countries and INTERPOL, the European Police Service and the European Railway Police Organization participated in the meeting through online video; embassies and consulates and police liaison officers from 14 countries
Heads of relevant departments of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the General Administration of Customs, the National Railway Group and the National Railway Administration, and the Central European Union More than 110 people attended the meeting
Including heads of public security organs in 16 provinces and cities where important domestic hub nodes are located, experts and scholars in domestic think tanks and other related fields, and heads of industry associations. Du Hangwei, Vice Minister of Public Security, Hu Minglang, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government and Director of the Public Security Bureau, Ye Hanbing, Vice Governor of Sichuan Provincial Government and Director of the Public Security Department, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
The purpose of this meeting is to deepen the consensus on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, serve a new pattern of dual-cycle development, further strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation among countries along the line, give full play to the exemplary and leading role of the construction of the twin-city economic circle in Chengdu and Chongqing in the safety and security of China-EU trains, and improve the overall safety and security level of the train.
During the meeting, the participating parties had an in-depth exchange of views on deepening international law enforcement cooperation under the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, ensuring the overall transportation safety of China-EU trains, and jointly building a community of national security destiny along China-EU trains. Delegates also visited Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, jointly set off the commemorative train of the Chamber of Commerce equipped with the theme car of “Xousands of miles to the vast”, and visited the China-EU train security equipment exhibition.
According to the introduction, the China-Europe train is a land container international intermodal train organized by China Railway Corporation and operated in Eurasia. Against the backdrop of the global economic downturn and the continued spread of the COVID-19 epidemic around the world, China-EU trains rose against the trend. The number of trains has continued to grow for eight consecutive months since March this year.
As of November 5, a total of 10,180 trains have been opened, with a 54% year-on-year increase in containers. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the volume of China-EU trains increased from 145,000 standard boxes shipped annually in 2016 to 725,000 standard boxes in 2019, an average annual increase of 71%.
At present, the China-Europe train has opened in 62 cities in China, reaching 21 countries and 92 cities in Europe. It is expected that by the end of this year, the annual traffic volume of China-EU trains will exceed 1 million standard boxes, and has developed into a landmark brand of the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Public Security said that Chinese public security organs will continue to deepen practical law enforcement cooperation with countries along the China-EU train, establish law enforcement liaison mechanisms, unblock cooperation channels, carry out bilateral and multilateral joint law enforcement actions, and continuously improve the level of security guarantee work in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
