On the morning of January 7th, local time, Lopez, the mayor of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, announced that the occupancy rate of intensive care units in the city’s medical system had reached 85%, and the medical system issued a red alert.
She said that although the Ministry of Health issued a statement that there is no scientific evidence that the variant strain of the novel coronavirus has spread in Colombia, it cannot be ruled out that this may be one of the reasons for the recent rapid increase in the transmission rate of COVID-19.
In order to curb the spread of the epidemic, the Bogotá municipal government decided on the same day to implement a strict quarantine policy throughout the city from 23:59 p.m. on the 7th to 4 a.m. on the 12th, during which people must avoid unnecessary travel.
The policy will continue until the 21st in three urban areas southwest of Bogotá.
In addition, from the 12th, a curfew will be imposed within Bogotá, and people must still follow the current restrictions on rotating travel at the end of their ID cards during the day.
