Admiral Art McDonald, Chief of National Defense Staff of Canada, signed an internal statement on February 3 local time to convey it within the military.

The statement confirmed that an investigation would be conducted into allegations of “malfeasance” between former Defense Chief of Staff Jonathan Vance and female subordinates.

The statement said that the military must have absolute trust and obedience to the commander, and that the commander must win trust.” Frankly speaking, I worry that similar situations will undermine your trust in commanders.

Therefore, the military decided to investigate the relevant allegations (involving Vance). In the statement, McDonald assured that the investigation would be open and transparent.

Canadian media reported on February 2 that Jonathan Vance, Canada’s former Chief of Defense Staff, had “misconduct” with his female subordinates, and one of them had told the media that it was true.

In a report in April 2015, Canadian Supreme Court Justice Marie Deschamps criticized the existence of a culture of “hate” and “sexual trafficking” within the military.

Three months later, in July of the same year, Vance took office as Chief of Defense Staff, the highest military position in Canada, when he announced that he would purge military discipline.
