A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom answered reporters’ questions on the wrong remarks made by Raab, British Foreign Minister for Development, concerning the decision of the State Administration of Radio and Television of China.

Reporter asked:

On February 11, the British Foreign Development Secretary issued a statement saying, “China’s decision to prohibit BBC World News from landing in China restricts media freedom and is unacceptable.” How does the Chinese Embassy comment on this?

Embassy spokesman:

For a period of time, the relevant content of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in China has seriously violated the relevant provisions of the Regulations on Radio and Television Administration and the Measures for the Landing of Overseas Satellite TV Channels, violated the requirement that news should be true and fair, damaged China’s national interests, undermined China’s national unity, and did not meet overseas frequency.

The State Administration of Radio and Television of China does not allow BBC World News Station to continue to land in China, and the application for BBC landing in the new year will not be accepted.

BBC China-related reports are keen to fabricate “liars of the century”, which not only violates the professional ethics of journalism, but also is full of serious double standards and profound ideological prejudices, which has aroused great indignation of the Chinese people.

Some people must call it “free press coverage”, but anyone with discerning eyes can see that this has become an excuse and shield for the Western media to fabricate fake news and spread rumors to discredit other countries.

All countries in the world implement the necessary supervision of the news media. The State Administration of Radio and Television of China has dealt with the BBC, which is legal and reasonable.

We urge the BBC to abandon the Cold War mentality, stop fabricating and disseminating fake news, stop publishing unfair, objective and irresponsible reports, stop malicious attacks and smear the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government, and take practical measures to eliminate the bad impact of relevant reports.
