Reporters learned from the National Space Administration, August 18, 2021, the Director General of the National Space Agency Zhang Kejian and the Brazilian Space Agency Director Carlos Mora, the General Manager of the Russian National Space Group Rogozin, the Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization Sivan and the Director General of the South African National Space Agency Musami and other BRICS space agencies held a video conference, and signed the BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation Agreement.

The BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation Cooperation Initiative was launched by the Chinese National Space Administration in 2015 and, with the joint efforts of the BRICS Space Agency and relevant departments, has completed the signing of the cooperation agreement in six years, laying the foundation for follow-up cooperation.

The constellation consists of existing BRICS satellites, including China’s High Score 6 satellite and Resource 3 02, China and Brazil jointly developed the China-Pakistan Earth Resources Satellite 04, the Russian Elder star five series of 1 star, and the Indian Resources Satellite 2 and 2 A.

Satellite data is available at ground stations in Sanya, China, Cuyaba, Russia, Moscow, India, Shadnagar-Hyderabad, and Hatbishawk, South Africa.

The establishment of a “virtual constellation of remote sensing satellites” between the BRICS space agencies and a data-sharing mechanism will help to address the challenges facing humanity, such as global climate change, major disasters and environmental protection.
