At least 10 people were killed and many others injured when two buses collided in the western African country of Ghana on August 22, local time.

Ghana’s fire department says two pairs of buses collided on a highway in Central Ghana province, causing severe damage to the vehicle and trapping some passengers. Rescuers arrived at the scene and confirmed that 10 people died at the scene. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The fire department said the exact number of passengers on the two buses was unknown and police had rushed to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.

Poor road infrastructure in Ghana, combined with poor drivers, has led to frequent road accidents.
