December 29th According to a report by the Central News Agency, the United Kingdom and the European Union have recently reached a post-Brexit trade agreement.

On the 28th local time, the ratification agreement of EU member states will take effect provisionally on January 1, 2021 local time. Britain takes a step closer to a negotiated Brexit.

On December 24, 2020, local time, the United Kingdom and the European Union finalized the “Brexit” trade agreement. After Brexit, the UK has to continue to enter the EU single market with zero tariffs and zero quotas.

It is reported that since December 25th local time, the ambassadors of EU member states to the EU have reviewed the 1,246-page trade agreement.

However, because the Brexit transition period will end on December 31 local time and cannot be adopted by the British Parliament and the European Parliament in time, EU member states decided to ratify the agreement provisionally effective on January 1, 2021.

On the 28th local time, a spokesman for the German Presidency of the European Union said on personal social media that the member states unanimously approved the trade agreement provisionally effective January 1, 2021.

The agreement will be approved in writing by all 27 governments of the European Union on the 29th local time.

The next focus will be on the British Parliament and the European Parliament to reach the final step of an agreed Brexit.

According to the report, due to the majority of the Conservative Party seat in power and the support of the leader of the opposition Labor Party, the British Parliament is expected to be voted on December 30 local time.

On the other hand, on the 28th local time, the President of the European Parliament met with the President of the Executive Committee of the European Union to exchange views.

The European Parliament said that it would carefully study the agreement and prepare to send it to the plenary at an appropriate time for discussion and decision.
