Syria’s parliament has announced a presidential election vote in May

April 18 The Syrian parliament announced on the 18th that the Syrian presidential election vote is scheduled to be held in May.

Syrian People’s Assembly Speaker Hamuda Sabbagh announced at a parliamentary session the same day, Syria’s presidential election vote is scheduled to be held on May 26, the foreign referendum will be held in advance on May 20. From the 19th to the 28th of this month, those who wish to participate in the presidential election may submit their applications to the High Constitutional Court of Syria.

Under Syria’s constitution, a seven-year term is directly elected by voters, and candidates need an absolute majority of votes to be elected.

President Bashar Al-Assad, who has been re-elected since 2000, has yet to say whether he will run in this year’s presidential election.
