Syrian military says Israeli air strikes killed 3 Syrian soldiers

Damascus, November 18 The Syrian military said on the 18th that Israel launched a missile attack on southern Syria that day, killing three Syrian soldiers and injuring one.

The Syrian news agency quoted Syrian military sources as saying that at about 3:10 on the 18th local time, the Israeli military launched an air strike against southern Syria from the direction of the Golan Heights.

The Syrian air defense system intercepted and shot down several incoming missiles. Israeli airstrikes killed three Syrian military personnel and injured one soldier, as well as damage to facilities.

After the Syrian civil war broke out, the Israeli army repeatedly used air strikes against Iranian military installations to attack targets in Syria. However, both the Syrian and Iranian governments deny that Iran has troops stationed in Syria.

On the morning of November 18th, local time, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Ziberman confirmed that in the early hours of the same day, Israeli soldiers launched air strikes on some military targets in southern Syria.

He said: “This is a powerful air strike.” Ziberman said that the airstrike in Syria early this morning was aimed at sending a message to Iran: asking Iranian soldiers to leave Syria, especially the border area between Israel and Syria.

 At the same time, Israel sent a clear message to Syria: Israel believes that Iran’s long-term military presence in Syria is unacceptable, and Syria is responsible and will bear the consequences.

Israeli Prime Minister-elect and Defense Minister Gantz said during a visit to the northern border of Israel on the 17th that Israel will not tolerate the planting of landmines on the Israeli-Syrian border in the Golan Heights.

The Syrian Sena News Agency reported that the Syrian air defense system prevented “Israel aggression” and shot down some missiles launched by Israel. In the Israeli airstrike, three Syrian soldiers were killed and one wounded. 

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 10 people were killed in the Israeli attack. Most of them were officers and soldiers of the Syrian air defense.
