Russian Satellite News Agency reported on December 21 that Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said in an interview with Satellite News Agency that Russia’s military presence in Syria is not only beneficial but also necessary.
Mekdad said: “We have won a common victory in the fight against terrorism.
This does not mean that terrorism has been eliminated, as the United States continues to encourage terrorist organizations to act more active to ensure that the U.S. presence in the region is justified… The fight against terrorism will continue to take place in various ways and means.”
He said: “The diplomatic action of the United States in the Middle East must change.
We believe that the United States must support the liberation of Arab territories, and Israel must withdraw from Palestine, the Syrian Golan Heights and the territories that are still occupied in southern Lebanon.” In response to the question about the United States sanctions against Syria, he said: “Obviously, the sanctions are criminal.
They are absolutely inhumane and only harm ordinary people, children and women. Therefore, we hope that the new U.S. government will abandon this policy, because it is not good for the United States and for target countries like Syria.”
He also said: “Russian military presence in Syria is not only beneficial, but also necessary.”
According to the report, the armed conflict in Syria has continued since March 2011.
Turkey, Russia and Iran are guarantors of the Syrian reconciliation process. At the end of 2017, Syria declared its victory over terrorists in its territory and launched political mediation, refugee return and post-war reconstruction.
