The city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, announced on January 8 local time that it will start promoting coronavirus vaccination on the 25th of this month at the same time as the city of São Paulo.

According to the immunization plan announced by the Rio municipal government, 450 vaccination sites in the city will be vaccinated in batches from the 25th.

At the press conference on the same day, the director of the Rio Department of Health said that if Brazil’s “National Immunization Program” began earlier than January 25, he would not rule out the possibility of early vaccination.

In the past 24 hours, 4,669 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 224 new deaths in Rio State.
