May 5 2021, Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority issued a notice that passengers from India are temporarily barred from entering the country, the decision to take effect immediately.

Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement that the country’s health department in accordance with the development of the outbreak, issued relevant instructions, Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority made the decision. The decision will be re-examined when the health department conducts another outbreak assessment.

Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority officials told the media on the 6th, the move is aimed at “preventing the introduction of Variant coronavirus from India into Sri Lanka.”

At present, Sri Lanka has a number of areas in a state of closure, the coronavirus intensive care unit has reached saturation status.

As of the morning of May 6, Sri Lanka’s health department reported 1,939 new confirmed cases of pneumonia in the past 24 hours, the highest number of single-day confirmed cases in the country since the outbreak. As of the morning of the 6th, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country reached 117,529, and the total number of deaths reached 734.
