South Korea’s army has another cluster epidemic, 60 recruits diagnosed with COVID-19

South Korea’s Ministry of Defense announced on the 25th that 60 recruits have been diagnosed with COVID-19, which is the largest cluster epidemic within the South Korean army so far.

It is understood that the 60 confirmed recruits have been trained in the Army’s 5th Division’s new recruit education team in Lianchuan County, Gyeonggi Province since the 10th of this month. At first, one recruit developed relevant symptoms and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, but he did not find any problems in the virus screening before entering the camp.

South Korean military sources said that the source of infection of the cluster epidemic is uncertain, but judging from the time and incubation period of symptoms such as fever, the possibility of virus importation from the outside cannot be ruled out.

At present, virus screening for other recruits and other personnel in the camp is still under way, and the number of confirmed cases is likely to rise further, compared with about 1,100 officers and soldiers in the camp.

In addition, the South Korean Ministry of Defense also reported three confirmed cases of the South Korean army earlier that day, and so far the South Korean army has confirmed a total of 326 cases. ( Chief Taiwan reporter Li Dajie)
