According to the Russian satellite news agency, 13 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks have occurred in poultry farms across South Korea. A recently confirmed case occurred in Kimpo, near Seoul.
South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture released a message that “in order to prevent the further spread of the virus, the government has ordered the slaughter of about 5.8 million poultry.
All poultry farms have also been disinfected extra recently, imposing a 48-hour ban on personnel, vehicle activities and poultry transportation. Experts say that the migration of wild migratory birds led to the spread of the avian influenza virus throughout South Korea.
Previously, there were outbreaks of avian influenza in South Jeolla Province, North Jeolla Province, Gyeonggi Province, North Chungcheong Province and North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea
