South African Judicial Council applies to the Constitutional Court for a judgment of the former President of South Africa

by YCPress

February 23rd local time, the National Judicial Investigation Commission of South Africa filed an urgent application to the Constitutional Court, asking the Constitutional Court to sentence former South African President Jacob Zuma to two years in prison for “contempt”.

The reason is that Zuma ignored the Judiciary Investigation Commission’s decision to “be present in court and answer non-criminal questions”.

Zuma, 78, has been President of South Africa since 2009, and was asked to resign in 2018 by the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) on corruption charges.
