South Africa may require India to recycle 1 million doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine

The Economic Times of India reported on Tuesday that South Africa has asked the Indian Serum Institute to withdraw 1 million doses of coronavirus vaccine delivered by the company in early February.

South Africa’s health minister said last week that the government may sell AstraZeneca’s vaccine doses, Reuters previously reported.

The South African government suspended the promotion of AstraZeneca vaccines after a small clinical trial showed that it had a weak protective effect on mutant viruses found in the country.

On February 15, the World Health Organization approved the emergency use of AstraZeneca vaccine.
