According to a report by Kyodo News Agency on the 18th, Taro Kono, Japan’s Minister of Administrative Reform, said in a recent interview with South Korea’s Central Daily that if the Tokyo Olympic Games are to be held this summer, it is indispensable for Japan to popularize the coronavirus vaccine to a certain extent.

He said: “It is precisely because of the availability of vaccines that the Olympic Games are possible. He hopes that the popularization of vaccines can be effectively promoted.”

Taro Kono said in an earlier interview with Reuters: “[including the possibility of empty space] We must do our best to prepare for the Olympics, but it is not clear what the result will be.” This statement was thus interpreted by the Western media as the pessimistic judgment of senior Japanese officials on the Olympic Games. Taro Kono subsequently posted on his social platform that the statement had been misinterpreted.
