Russian Satellite News Agency reported on January 21 that Russian Ambassador Antonov to the United States said in an interview with Satellite News Agency that Moscow hoped that the Biden government would abide by the pre-election statement on the Iran issue, first of all, to return to the Iran nuclear agreement.

Antonov said, “We hope that the U.S. Democratic government will abide by its pre-election commitments on Iran, first of all, to return to the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan.

We believe that this is conducive to the resumption of political dialogue and the alleviation of the situation in the Persian Gulf region.

In July 2015, Iran and the six countries on the Iranian nuclear issue (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany) reached a Joint Comprehensive Action Plan to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue (i.e. the Iran Nuclear Agreement).

When the agreement is fulfilled, the United Nations Security Council, the United States and the European Union should completely lift the economic and financial sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the United States announced its unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement and the phased full resumption of sanctions against Iran, including secondary sanctions against countries operating with Iran.
