Russia plans to deploy new air defense radars in the Arctic

According to RIA Novosti, Russian military sources said in an interview on April 17 local time that the Russian military plans to deploy a new “Sky-SBU” radar system in the Arctic region to further strengthen the Russian military’s air defense capabilities in the Arctic region.

According to information previously released by the Russian Defense Ministry, the Sky-SBU radar system is primarily used to detect and track new aircraft and missiles, including hypersonic and small stealth targets.

By the end of 2020, the first “Sky-SBU” radar system has been officially included in the Russian Northern Fleet, the smaller deployment of this type of radar flexible, can be installed in trucks or small ships to carry out tasks, the future “Sky-SBU” radar system will fully cover all airspace in the Northern Passage.
