January 7th that Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said at a press conference on Thursday that the protesters’ impact on Congress the previous day was a “gift” from Trump to Russian President Putin.
Pelosi declared: “This president is completely a tool for Putin. Putin’s goal is to weaken the concept of democracy in the world and weaken the reputation of democracy.
This is what he is doing. And Donald Trump has been his helper for a long time. She also added, “Out of all the gifts the president (Trump) gave to Putin, yesterday was the largest.”
In addition, Pelosi also called on current Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to remove Trump and said that if Pence did not do so, impeachment proceedings would be initiated.
Pelosi accused Trump of being “a very dangerous person who should not remain in power” and “if he sedes the rebellion as he did yesterday, he must be removed from office. Although there are only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for the United States.
Pelosi’s statement comes as several senior Democratic lawmakers, as well as some Republican lawmakers, call for Trump’s removal by invoking the 25th Amendment or initiating impeachment proceedings.
Chuck Schumer, the minority leader of the U.S. Senate, who has called for Trump’s removal from office, said in a statement released on Thursday that the “fastest and most effective way” for the Trump cabinet is to invoke the 25th Amendment.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a Republican, also tweeted: “It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment and end this nightmare.” It is understood that at least 12 Democratic lawmakers, together with Schumer and Pelosi, have called on Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump.
Under U.S. law, to invoke the 25th Amendment, the consent of the 15 cabinet ministers and vice presidents must be obtained, and the official documents must then be sent to Congress for consideration and approval.
