The exercises include the rapid deployment of warships and submarines by the Russian Northern Fleet to Arctic waters, the rapid transfer of Russian air forces to airports in the Arctic region and the establishment of fortifications.
The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the main purpose of the exercise is to improve the Russian military’s ability to protect economic activities in the Arctic region. During the exercise, the Russian military will also conduct maritime rescue and in extreme cases to ensure maritime communications exercises.
