February 7th – On the 6th local time, a riot broke out in an American prison.

115 prisoners smashed glass and set fire to the prison, and also attacked prison guards. It took the prison guard nearly seven hours to restore order.

According to the Daily Mail, riots broke out at 3 a.m. on the prison in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, and many witnesses uploaded videos of the scene of the riot to social media.

Video shows more than 100 prisoners smashing high-rise glass and throwing objects down from the window and setting fire.

They gathered in front of the broken windows in bright yellow prison uniforms upstairs holding signs and gathering in front of the broken windows to protest against the restrictions caused by the epidemic.

Local mayor spokesman Jacob Long said the violence of the 115 prisoners was “very extreme and intolerable”.

These people have vandalized prison facilities, blocked toilets and caused water leakage.

Jacob said the prisoners acted extrem because they feared of contracting the novel coronavirus and were dissatisfied with the restrictions on visiting prisons and delaying legal procedures due to the epidemic.

It took nearly seven hours for firefighters and law enforcement officers to restore order, and a prison guard was injured in the chaos.

“All the people involved in the riot were prisoners who committed serious crimes, all of whom were re-detained at 10 a.m. on the 6th,” said Jimmy Edwards, the city of St. Louis security director, during a press conference after the riots.
