May 12 2021 The University of Edinburgh said on the 12th that they are working with the University of Glasgow, the University of Stirling and other institutions to develop a new early warning system for the spread of the coronavirus, so as to help public health departments predict the spread of the virus, prevention ahead of time, to avoid widespread transmission of the virus.

According to the University of Edinburgh, the system will provide a comprehensive assessment of the spread of the virus based on data from local health authorities in Scotland, such as coronavirus vaccinations, coronavirus testing, new corona confirmed cases, and wastewater monitoring data from local environmental authorities and water companies.

The school says the monitoring of wastewater is primarily about analyzing genetic material from the coronavirus, which helps to analyze where the spread of the virus is increasing or easing, and helps authorities better understand the overall distribution of the virus and the areas where it is endemic.

The researchers say the project will help identify potential coronavirus hotspots, predict stress levels in hospitals and intensive care units, and provide more targeted references for vaccination.
