January 26 According to Reuters, U.S. President Biden said on the 25th that he would replace nearly 650,000 vehicles from the government fleet with electric vehicles.

According to the report, the new U.S. government will focus on clean energy.

Biden said on the 25th, “The federal government has a huge fleet, and we will replace these vehicles with clean electric vehicles made by American workers in the United States.”

The White House did not disclose how long Biden’s plan would take.

The report said that replacing the fleet may cost $20 billion, or more.

According to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the U.S. government had 645,000 vehicles, driven 4.5 billion miles cumulatively and consumed 375 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel as of 2019.

The GSA said the U.S. government’s vehicle cost in 2019 amounted to $4.4 billion.

During his campaign, Biden vowed a major commitment to buy clean vehicles for federal, state and other departments.

According to GSA data, as of July 2020, only 3,215 U.S. government vehicles were electric vehicles.
