President of the European Commission: Progress in the European-British negotiations will be crucial in the coming days

by YCPress

European Commission President von der Leyen said on the 16th local time that she was unable to give a clear answer to whether the European Union and the United Kingdom could finally reach an agreement, but it was certain that the two sides had found a solution to most of the problems, and the next few days would be crucial.

On the same day, in his speech to European parliamentarians in Brussels, von der Leyen revealed that there are still two major issues that remain unresolved between Europe and Britain, namely, fair competition and fisheries, but the two sides have basically reached a consensus on issues related to compliance management.

According to the previous Brexit agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom will end the “Brexit” transition period at the end of this month.

At present, the EU-UK negotiating team is negotiating a future relationship with a trade agreement at the core in Brussels.

If Europe and Britain do not reach a trade agreement during the transition period, the trade between the two sides will return to the WTO framework from 2021 and resume border inspection and tariffs.
