President and CEO of Marriott International passed away at the age of 62.

February 16, 2021 local time, Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) announced that Arne M, president and CEO of Marriott International Group. Sorenson died on February 15, 2021 at the age of 62.

In May 2019, Marriott International announced that Su Anli was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and began treatment.

On February 2 this year, Marriott International announced that Su Anli will temporarily reduce its work schedule to match the higher requirements for pancreatic cancer treatment.

However, Su Anli continues to serve as president and CEO of Marriott International, but he is expected to retire from his full-time job with Marriott in the coming months.

On the same day, Marriott International also appointed two senior executives of the group, Stephanie Linnartz, 52, president of the Customer Operations, Technology and Emerging Business Group, and Tony, 55, president of the Global Development, Design and Operations Services Group.

Su An Li has been the CEO of Marriott International Group since 2012. He is the third and first non-Marriott founding family member to serve as CEO.

According to the information in Marriott International’s 2019 annual report, Su Anli served as president and chief operating officer of Marriott International before becoming CEO.

Prior to joining Marriott, Su Anli was a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins in Washington. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from DeCara Luther College, Iowa, and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Since joining Marriott in 1996, Su Anli has held several positions, including Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, Continental Hotel President and Senior Vice President of Business Development.

He was elected to the Marriott Board of Directors in 2011. At the same time, Su Anli is also active on multiple boards of directors. He joined the Microsoft Board of Directors in November 2017 and is also a member of the Business Roundtable, serving on the Immigration and Infrastructure Committee.

In addition, Su Anli is a member of the board of directors of the Brookings Institution, a member of the Warrior Scholars Program, and a member of the Regents Committee of Luther College.

In an announcement on February 16, Marriott International pointed out that Su Anli is a visionary leader.

Under his leadership, Marriott International Group has maintained a strong growth momentum, including spending $13 billion to acquire Starwood Hotels and Resorts International Group.

During his tenure as CEO, Su An spared no effort to promote the company’s development, create opportunities for employees, improve performance for owners and franchisees, and expand the return on investment for shareholders.

Su Anli’s leadership is also reflected in dealing with complex domestic and global issues in the United States.
