U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo changed his words on the 8th, calling Biden “President-elect of the United States” for the first time.
The day before (7th), US President Trump said that the new government will take office on January 20 and focus on an orderly and smooth transition of regime.
According to the U.S. World Journal, Pompeo tweeted on the same day that in order to promote an orderly transition of power and ensure American interests, he met with Secretary of State Blinken, appointed by Biden, “President-elect of the United States”, to discuss the handover.
He also said, “This meeting was fruitful, and we will work together on behalf of the United States throughout the transition of power.”
According to the World Journal, this is the first time Pompeo has called Biden “President-elect of the United States”.
Shortly after the end of the 2020 election, Pompeo was asked by reporters about the government handover.
At that time, he replied that when every legal vote is included in the calculation, the United States will make a smooth transition to the “second Trump administration”.
CNN also pointed out that before that, Pompeo had not called Biden “president-elect” in his public speech.
