according to a gallup poll released on october 5th, americans now have a negative view of democrats and republicans in the u.s. congress at 55 percent and 56 percent, respectively.

the poll was conducted between 1 and 17 september. during that time, u.s. president Joe Biden’s approval rating fell to 43 percent, the lowest on record for a president, as a result of the withdrawal from afghanistan and the rise in infection rates with the Coronavirus delta strain.

the poll also showed that independents were largely responsible for the decline in favorable opinion between the two parties. independents have 35 percent support for democrats and 38 percent for republicans.
