On Thursday (14th local time), Vice President Mike Pence called Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to congratulate her and promised to assist her in her successful inauguration.
According to CNN, Pence called Harris on the 14th, and the two had a “kind and pleasant” conversation.
Pence congratulated Harris on his election as Vice President of the United States by phone and expressed his willingness to help her take office smoothly.
According to the report, this is the first conversation between Pence and Harris after arguing with each other during the election campaign. It is also the highest level of contact between outgoing members of the U.S. government and the incoming members of the new government.
Other contacts about the transfer of power took place at the staff level.
According to the New York Times, Pence and his wife Karen may invite Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff to visit the Naval Observatory at the Vice President’s residence before the 20th.
However, the report also stressed that the plan is still variable, in part because of the security threat to the U.S. capital Washington, which makes the scheduled schedule of some officials uncertain.
