Aug. 19 2021 A member of the Georgian Paralympic delegation and judo athlete Gogociuri was arrested in Japan earlier for assaulting a hotel security guard, Fuji TV reported Wednesday. Gogociuri confessed during the investigation that he had been drinking and did not remember what had happened and that he reflected on the violence.

Reported that on the 12th, Gogochuri at the hotel to a Japanese male security guard punched and kicked each other, resulting in fractures. Prior to the incident, several Georgian athletes were drinking in the corridors, making noise and warning them by other security guards. Police are currently investigating the details of the incident.

Gogociuri, who won gold at the Rio Paralympics, was disqualified after the violence. After the incident, the Georgian Olympic Committee said the incident had affected Georgia’s image and wanted to apologize to the victims, security companies and Japan.
