Pandemic continues to worsen, many US supermarket chains resume purchase restrictions on some commodities

As Coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen in the United States, local people’s purchases of daily necessities have increased, and many large supermarket chains in the United States have resumed their purchase restrictions on toilet paper and hand sanitizer since the spring due to fears of a shortage of goods again.

Kroger Co., the country’s largest grocery chain, and Publix Super Markets Inc., which has more than 1,200 chain stores in the southeast, reinstated restrictions on paper and kitchen paper last week.

Kroger also restored restrictions on hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

Giant, a supermarket chain operating in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, has also re-limited the purchase of toilet paper and tissues. Wegmans supermarket chain (Wegmans) also set purchase restrictions on paper towels, household cleaners and disinfecting wipes.

These retailers said that since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in the United States, American manufacturers and retailers have experienced a shortage of canned products, staple food products and tissue products for several months, although they have now begun to resume supply. But there is still a long way to go before full recovery.

As the pandemic continues to worsen, people stay at home more and the demand for daily necessities continues to grow. In order to prevent the shortage of goods that occurred in the spring again, they decided to implement purchase restrictions on some commodities.
