Officials of international organizations: China’s poverty reduction experience is a treasure house

by YCPress

On November 23, Guizhou Province announced that all poverty-stricken counties had achieved poverty alleviation. So far, my country’s 832 national-level poor counties have all been lifted out of poverty.

Brett, Director of the Asia-Pacific Bureau of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, accepted an exclusive interview with a headquarter reporter on the 24th, congratulating China on its achievements in poverty reduction, and hopes to continue to deepen cooperation with China, share China’s experience internationally, and promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development .

Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, more than 700 million people in China have been lifted out of poverty, contributing more than 70% of the world’s poverty reduction.

Brett, Director of the Asia Pacific Bureau of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, analyzed that there are three reasons for China’s success.

The first is to formulate policies to achieve targeted poverty alleviation; second, to innovate technology and improve efficiency; third, to invest heavily in rural infrastructure to realize agricultural modernization .

Brett believes that China’s poverty alleviation has made a huge contribution to the world’s early realization of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Nigel Brett, Director of the Asia-Pacific Bureau of the International Fund for Agricultural Development: First of all, I would like to congratulate China. China’s poverty reduction achievements are remarkable.

I don’t think any other country can accomplish such a far-reaching cause so quickly. Therefore, China’s achievements in poverty reduction are remarkable and historic.

China’s poverty reduction experience is a treasure house

Brett believes that China’s poverty reduction experience is a treasure trove that has been widely shared internationally over the years. IFAD will continue to strengthen cooperation with China in the future, and looks forward to a new level of cooperation with China.

Nigel Brett, Director of the Asia-Pacific Bureau of the International Fund for Agricultural Development: First of all, we must be clear that the Chinese experience is very meaningful.

The first thing we learned from China is that poverty eradication is not a utopian dream or idea, it is entirely possible Yes, and it is possible in our generation.

Another important point is that China can share experiences. Of course, these experiences cannot be simply copied and pasted from one country to another. The experience needs to be adjusted to meet the specific local conditions.

Headquartered in Rome, Italy, the International Fund for Agricultural Development has a total of 177 member countries. It is one of the three major organizations in the field of food and agriculture of the United Nations.

It mainly provides preferential financial support for poverty alleviation and agricultural development in developing countries. China joined the IFAD in 1980.
