Nigerian people call the new Director-General of the WTO “African Pride”

February 15, the World Trade Organization officially appointed Nigerian economist Ngozi Okonjo-Iveala as the new Director-General.

She will become the first female Director-General of the WTO and the first Director-General from the African continent. Oconcho-Iveala’s term of office will last from March 1 this year to August 31, 2025.

On the 15th, the news of Oconjo-Iveala’s appointment was sent back to his native Nigeria. Nigerians from all walks of life congratulated him on his election and praised his achievements.

Nigerian President Buhari congratulated Okonjo-Iveala on behalf of the Federal Government of Nepal and the Nigerian people, saying that her election to Nigeria brought joy and more honor.

Buhari said he was confident that Oconcho-Iveala would perform his new duties well.

Nigerian Senate President Ravan issued a statement saying that the election of Okoncho-Iwaiala brought honor to women in Nigeria, Africa and around the world.

Lavan hopes that Oconcho-Iveala “use her intelligence, experience and energy to lead the WTO in promoting global prosperity through fair trade”.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Bajabiyamira, issued a congratulatory statement, saying that Okonjo-Iveala’s election made Nigeria and Africa proud.

The Nigerian media and people can’t hide their pride in the election of Okonjo Iveala, and have expressed congratulations on social media, saying that Okonjo Iveala has made historic achievements as a woman from Africa.
