November 16. According to a report by the Chinese Herald of New Zealand, National Radio New Zealand (RNZ) reported that according to the new entry restrictions waiver announced by the New Zealand government last month, the first batch of international students is preparing to return to New Zealand.

New Zealand universities, which represent eight universities across the country, said they have contacted 194 eligible students and will now begin processing their visas.

The committee stated that these students are from China, the United Kingdom, the United States, India, Vietnam, Iran, Pakistan, Nigeria, Italy and France, and it will take another four weeks to see if all of these students can go to New Zealand.

The government announced in October this year that it had created a new category of exemption from entry restrictions – 250 international PhD students and postgraduate students can enter New Zealand.

These students need to have a valid visa and are studying in the 2020 academic year. Their research needs practice parts like medicine, veterinary medicine, engineering, laboratory sciences, etc. They cannot undertake distance learning, and they have to go to New Zealand, otherwise their research cannot progress or be completed.

The University of New Zealand Board stated that due to its stringent selection criteria, the actual number was less than the initial quota.
