New York Governor Cuomo said on the 4th local time that New York State has found cases of COVID-19, a variant of the United Kingdom.

According to Bloomberg on the 5th, Cuomo said that New York State officially confirmed the first case of the novel coronavirus related to the British variant.

A man in his 60s living in Saratoga County, New York, had initially tested positive for a new virus strain. Cuomo said the man had not traveled recently, proving that it was the result of community transmission.

Cuomo said that New York has done about 5,000 tests related to the British variant of the novel coronavirus, which may once again become a big problem because the mutant virus is more infectious.

It is reported that New York State is currently dealing with the rising number of hospitalizations.

According to the report, the man was found to be associated with a jewelry store in the town of Saratoga Springs, New York. So far, three cases of infection have been found to be related to the jewelry store.

Relevant people are confirming whether the three cases have been infected with the mutant virus.

According to previous reports, after the British government notified the emergence of a new strain of COVID-19 mutation in December 2020, the mutant strain has spread on a large scale, affecting outside the UK.

According to Public Health England, this mutant virus is named “VUI-202012/01” and means the first mutant novel coronavirus in December 2020. In addition, other new varieties of the novel coronavirus have been discovered in South Africa, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile.
