According to a report by Russian TV (RT) on the 4th, at the beginning of the New Year, a few days after a 220-meter diameter asteroid flew by the earth, a larger space object is about to fly by the earth.
According to the report, NASA’s Near-Earth Object Exploration Program (CNEOS) announced that on Monday, the 32-meter diameter asteroid 2021 AB and the 11-meter diameter asteroid 2012 BT1 were 842,000 kilometers away from Earth and 5.2 million kilometers respectively.
Places fly by the earth. On Wednesday, the asteroid 2021 AC with a diameter of 62 meters (half the height of the pyramid of Khufu) will fly by from 3.5 million kilometers from the earth.
This is followed by a relatively large asteroid 2016 CO247, estimated to be 270 meters in diameter (0.83 times the height of the Eiffel Tower), which will fly by at a distance of 7.4 million kilometers from Earth.
Then there is the asteroid 2018 KP1 with a diameter of 32 meters, which will pass innocently through the earth at a distance of 7.4 million kilometers.
According to NASA, these asteroids, big or small, are not a direct threat. They are tracked because they are less than 7.5 million kilometers away from the earth (which is 19.5 times the distance between the earth and the moon), or because they are larger than 150 meters in size.
These space rocks do not pose any direct threat to the earth, but the astronomical community defines “threshold” for “harmful objects” to be more than 140 meters in diameter.
Previously, a NASA spokesman said that even if an asteroid can enter the Earth’s atmosphere, it will disintegrate at high altitude; when it “impacts” on the earth, it will have long turned into globular meteorites.
