The Ministry of Health of Morocco announced on the 18th local time that the country had confirmed the first variant COVID-19 infection that night.

This variant virus was first discovered in the UK and is more infectious than the general coronavirus.

It is reported that the case was diagnosed in Tangier, northern Morocco.

The patient is a Moroccan who once lived in Ireland. He arrived in Tangier via Marseille, France.

After genome sequencing and analysis of his virus sample, authorities confirmed that he was infected with a variant novel coronavirus in the United Kingdom.

However, the patient himself did not show any symptoms of COVID-19.

At present, the patient has been quarantined in Casablanca, and people who have had close contact with him have also been quarantined.
