Former Moldovan Prime Minister Jan Kiku announced his resignation as Prime Minister on the 23rd of this month in preparation for the country’s early parliamentary elections.

Kiku said that he would continue to fulfill his duties as prime minister until December 31.

According to Moldovan law, the President shall elect the interim Prime Minister from among the current government ministers.

Born in 1968, Aurel Chokey has been engaged in diplomatic work for many years and has served as Moldova’s ambassador to Germany, Denmark, China and the United States.

He has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova since November 2019.
