Mexico’s National Minimum Income Committee recently announced that at the suggestion of Mexican President Lopez, the minimum daily salary in Mexico will be raised from the current 123.22 pesos to 141.7 pesos, an increase of 15%, from January 1, 2021.

The minimum wage in the Free Trade Area of the Northern Border of Mexico has been adjusted from 185.66 to 213.39 pesos. In addition, domestic workers and agricultural workers will be included in the minimum wage statistics for the first time, which will increase the income of Mexican women in these two industries by 25% and 30%, respectively.

This proposal was supported by the federal government and trade union organizations, but was opposed by employers’ associations.

After the above adjustment made by the Mexican National Minimum Income Committee, Mexico’s minimum wage will rise by 8th in the international ranking, ranking 76th out of 135 countries. The goal of the Mexican government is to be among the top 60 global minimum wage standards.
