January 26, Mexican local time, Mount Popocatepete, about 65 kilometers southeast of Mexico City, has erupted 24 times in the past 24 hours, including smoke columns ejected from the crater up to 700 meters.
Mexico’s National Disaster Prevention Center announced that it would enter a level 2 yellow alert state within 12 kilometers of the crater, and advised annex residents not to approach the volcanic area.
