According to a report on February 13th local time, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (Ministerial Affairs) of South Africa confirmed that Kgabo Mahoai, the Director-General (Second Deputy Minister), has been suspended from office with effect from February 11.

According to the South African Parliamentary Oversight Report, Mawai will be suspended from his post for review by the relevant departments, said Naledi Pandor, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa.

The report pointed out that there were irregular procurements in the South African Mission to the United Nations and other diplomatic offices in New York, involving rand 118 million (about 52 million yuan).

South Africa’s Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation originally planned to purchase land and build diplomatic offices in New York, so it paid 118 million rand as a deposit for a U.S. real estate company to build office buildings.

However, the South African parliamentary delegation found that there is only one dilapidated building on the land at present, which is far from the original plan.

South African Parliament calls for a full investigation, while recommending that Jerry Matjila, the former South ambassador to the United States be held accountable.
