The number of patients in Malaysia’s intensive care unit (ICU) has soared 46 percent in the past two weeks, the largest number since the outbreak began, said Noor Chisham, director of Malaysia’s Ministry of Health.
As of May 12, 641 patients had been treated in ICU wards in Malaysia, 469 of whom had been diagnosed with Coronavirus, and 244 of them needed ventilators, Mr. Shisham said.
“It’s not just a number, each of them is someone else’s father, mother, brother, sister, brother or close friend,” he said. He also said that many ICU wards in Malaysia are currently used to treat patients with Coronavirus, and some hospitals will also be in other areas of the hospital, such as general wards, converted to ICU wards.
As of May 12, there were 463,222 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Malaysia and 1,761 deaths.
