Malaysian Prime Minister: A comprehensive closure of the city will seriously affect people's livelihood People must consciously cooperate with the government to prevent pandemic

On the evening of the 23rd local time, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhiddin called on the people of Malaysia to implement a “self-blockade” to fight the pandemic and control the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Malaysia, which has remained high in recent days.

In an interview with Malaysia’s state broadcaster, he said all government efforts would be wasted if the public did not strictly abide by the pandemic prevention measures.

For him and Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, “full closure” is the most effective way to block the virus transmission chain, but it will have a serious impact on the national economy and threaten people’s lives, Mr. Muhiddin said.

He cites the devastating impact on the economy of the “full closure of the city”, which was hit by 2.4 billion ringgit (about $0.6b) a day in economic losses as the government implemented its first comprehensive anti-pandemic control order in March 2020.

It is reported that due to the rebound of the coronavirus outbreak, Malaysia is currently implementing a nationwide action control order, the closure of schools;

As of May 23, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Malaysia has exceeded 510,000, with a cumulative total of 2,248 deaths.
