by YCPress

2 May 2021 President Rajoelina of Madagascar made a televised address announcing the continuation of the extension of the national health emergency for 15 days to 16 May, partially adjusting the preventive and control measures, as follows:

1. The Anaramanga district, where the capital Antananarivo is located, the eastern Azinanana region, the northern Sava region and the Sofia region continue to be closed to persons, with a curfew imposed between 21 and 4 a.m.

2. The Wakinan Calatra Region, upper Machiatra Region and Anusi Region will implement the same control measures as the four regions mentioned above from 5 May.

From 3 May, the Bueni and Nosibe regions ended their controls and allowed access.

4. The weekend home order in an Anaramanga district continues, leaving only the core services functioning, public transport suspended (except taxis) and religious sites closed.

In addition, from 23 April to 29 April, Madagascar added 2,239 confirmed cases of coronavirus, a slight decrease from the previous week’s 3,736 new confirmed cases, but the outbreak remains severe.
