Recently, the medical system in Los Angeles County has been overwhelmed due to the surge in the number of new cases and severe cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County.

On the 18th local time, Dr. Brad Spielberg, chief medical officer of the University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles, warned in a briefing that Los Angeles County is currently moving towards becoming the center of the epidemic. According to the state’s epidemic data, two weeks ago, Los Angeles County reported fewer than 10,000 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus every day.

But since then, the county’s daily number of new confirmed cases has surged, peaking at 22,000, putting the county’s health care system under enormous pressure.

Dr. Spielberg said that so far, in Los Angeles County, with 10 million residents, only 699 beds are available, and there are currently only 69 beds left in the intensive care unit.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also warned that with a large number of new coronavirus patients coming to the hospital for treatment. In the coming days, the county may be forced to declare a state of emergency for the health care system.
