Locust infestation in 15 counties in Kenya

by YCPress

January 21 local time, the Kenyan government announced that 15 of Kenya’s 47 counties had been hit by a second wave of more serious locust attacks.

The counties hit by locusts are located in arid and semi-arid lands, where most of them are nomadic herdsmen who depend on livestock for their livelihood.

Kenya’s Minister of Agriculture Peter Munya said on January 21 local time that Kenya, like other East African countries, is fully prepared to curb the locust invasion.

He added that a total of 75 colonies of locusts have invaded different parts of Kenya since November 2020.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations says that the attack of desert locusts is also related to climate change.
